Dr John Belgrave attended Trinity College from 1969 to 1976. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of the West Indies, a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree from Lansbridge University in New Brunswick, Canada.
John is a petroleum engineer with over 30 years of experience in diverse oil and gas operations. He has successfully created value in a variety of technical and managerial capacities in the areas of conventional oil, heavy oil, bitumen and gas operations in Trinidad, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, United States, Kazakhstan and Libya.
His strengths are in establishing optimal pool exploitation strategies, capital development planning and monetization of assets. With extensive petroleum engineering experience, his focus has been reservoir characterization, simulation, and enhanced oil recovery particularly using air and steam injection techniques.
John began his career in 1980 with Trinidad Tesoro Petroleum Company Ltd. In 1988, he joined the Oil Sands Technology Development Group of British Petroleum Canada where he was involved with the planning and optimization of the Wolf Lake cyclic steam and air injection demonstration projects. Between 1989 and 1996 John served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering at the University of Calgary where he earned several awards for excellence in teaching and published novel research papers on leading-edge air injection technology.
John is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Belgrave Oil and Gas Corporation which currently operates in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
The Trinity College Alumni Association acknowledges the achievements of Dr John Belgrave as an outstanding Petroleum Engineer, Educator and Entrepreneur and readily admits him into its Hall of Fame.
